“We should always make it our purpose to be aware there are those among us who need our kindness.”
— Miriam Rebecca “Becky” Nelson
Common Wealth Charlotte is honored to offer
The Becky Nelson Opportunity Loan
When a family, or her church, or the community, or just a friend was ever found in need in any way, no one was ever surprised to see Miriam Rebecca “Becky” Nelson involved.
In that spirit, The Becky Nelson Opportunity Loan has been established to honor her memory.
Mrs. Nelson could always be found working to solve a problem.
“Becky” (as she was known by everyone) exemplified great leadership skills that she used to help establish the Presbyterian Foundation-Pulmonary Rehab and was involved for years in many fund raising events at Providence Day School. She could always be counted on to help or lead, whatever the situation required.
She was a fierce competitor, and her winning spirit and giving manner led to the establishment in 2011 of Becky Nelson New Beginnings, a nonprofit organization dedicated to offering low-interest loans to people striving to improve their financial stability through education and job training.
I moved my family to Charlotte after a rough transition period following my divorce. We were, literally, looking for a new beginning. It was my goal to get back into school right away (in continuance of a college education I’d started ten years prior), but financial restrictions prevented me from pursuing that goal. BNNB sponsored my first semester of school at CPCC. (Holly, Becky Nelson New Beginnings client)
