All across Charlotte and Mecklenburg County organizations, neighborhood groups, churches, companies and individuals are looking for sound, reputable personal financial literacy training.

This is particularly true among wage earners at 30-60% Area Median Income ($2,000 – $2,750 take home pay per month).

Common Wealth Charlotte, the leading organization providing financial literacy education and capability-building services in the region, delivers both workshops and one-to-one counseling to the region, all for the purpose of aiding clients building assets, building credit and establishing a pathway to building wealth.

Now, you can play a significant role in this mission.

“I care about financial literacy!”

We hear it all the time. “I care about financial literacy, and I wish I could do something about it.” Now, you can. Common Wealth Charlotte is taking applications to join its team of volunteer Certified Financial Educators (CFE). Learning and using CWC's curriculum – a combination of custom and aggregated information – CFEs partner with CWC counseling staff to deliver financial literacy training throughout Mecklenburg County and beyond.

CWC offers certification in three courses:

  1. Empowerment Workshop This is our workhorse Personal Finance 101 – an overview of income, expenses, and credit, and how to manage each for a brighter financial future

  2. Understanding the Credit System A deep dive into credit, the credit system, credit scoring and sound borrowing practice

  3. Financial Goal Setting How to set short-, medium- and long-term SMART goals for achieving financial success

Each training session includes an overview of CWC's trauma-informed approach.

We are currently accepting applications to certify as an Empowerment Workshop Educator.

Certification is 8 hours, including one 4-hour classroom session with review of the material, CWC’s trauma-informed approach, techniques for working with low-income individuals, role-playing for understanding of our projected audience and Q&A; attendance at two (2) one-hour workshops to see other certified leaders in action; lead one (1) workshop with certified instructor observing, and one (1) review with your instructor to evaluate your leadership.

Interested? Complete the application and we’ll be in touch to talk with you more.
